🌱 Mercia Electrical Partners with Burton Rugby Club for a Sustainable Future! ⚡




We’re thrilled to announce the successful installation of a 128.7kW solar system at Burton Rugby Club, marking a significant milestone in their ongoing commitment to green energy and sustainability. This initiative not only underscores the club’s dedication to reducing its carbon footprint but also highlights the growing trend of sports organisations embracing renewable energy solutions. The newly installed solar system is equipped with two super-efficient Solax inverters, which are known for their reliability and high performance. These inverters, with a combined generation capacity of 130kW, play a crucial role in optimising the energy produced from the solar panels.




The solar array consists of a total of 220 panels, strategically positioned on both the east and west facing roofs of the main rugby club building. This careful placement allows for maximum sunlight exposure throughout the day, ensuring that the system can harness the sun’s energy efficiently, regardless of the time of year. The panels are designed to capture sunlight during peak hours, converting it into usable electricity that can power the club’s facilities, reducing reliance on traditional energy sources and lowering operational costs.

In addition to the financial benefits associated with reduced energy bills, the installation of the solar system is expected to significantly decrease the club's greenhouse gas emissions. This aligns with broader environmental goals and reflects a growing awareness within the sporting community about the importance of sustainable practices. Furthermore, the transition to solar energy demonstrates to club members, fans, and the local community that Burton Rugby Club is taking proactive steps toward a greener future.

In addition, a state-of-the-art 22kW dual floor mount EV charger has been strategically added to the car park as a significant part of this forward-thinking project. This initiative not only enhances the infrastructure available at the rugby club but also reinforces the club's unwavering commitment to promoting green energy solutions. By providing this essential facility, they aim to support both visitors and staff in their transition towards more sustainable transportation methods, making it easier for everyone to charge their electric vehicles while enjoying the facilities at the club. As electric vehicles become increasingly popular, this charger will serve as a vital resource for their community, encouraging eco-friendly practices and reducing our carbon footprint moving forward. 



Furthermore, the club’s green energy heating system, which was installed in 2020, has now been significantly enhanced with the addition of a solar energy system. This solar installation not only generates clean, renewable energy but also contributes surplus energy that supports the existing heating system, thereby improving overall energy efficiency. Originally envisioned in two distinct phases, the installation process was completed ahead of schedule, well before the onset of spring and summer. This proactive approach ensures that the club can harness the benefits of solar power during the warmer months, leading to reduced energy costs and a smaller ecological footprint.



This ambitious project serves as a testament to the strength of our local partnerships and the dedicated efforts of the Mercia Electrical team, who meticulously managed every aspect of the installation process, from the initial ground works to the final commissioning of the systems.
